The RNR Rockfighter is our first-ever Swiss Made timepiece with a dial handcrafted from the door of a 2003 Land Rover Defender. Limited to 453 pieces.
The 2003 Land Rover Defender donor is owned by German gentleman, and owner of 4x4 Experience, Michael Ortner. He uses this specific car as a tool to climb the steepest mountains and cross the deepest creeks on his many adventure trips all over the Globe. This 2003 Defender has travelled to Sardinia, Corsica, Iceland and Morocco. Just to mention a few of the many countries it has seen.
The RNR Rockfighter is a tribute to the raw functionality of this legendary Defender.
The many adventures and journeys, Michael has had with his close companion, the 2003 Land Rover Defender, has set its marks on his trusted rock climber. In 2019 it needed a new door - but instead of disposing the old, worn-out left aluminum door, that has been the gateway to so many adventures for Michael, it was donated to REC Watches.
This specific door was the punched into 453 watch dials, coated with a clear lacquer and built directly into the RNR Rockfighter design - giving new life to a car that has travelled and seen more roads in 17 years than most Defenders will in a lifetime. Every single dial showcases the marks and dents of the rough life this Defender has experienced.
The RNR Rockfighter has been developed in close cooperation with Michael Ortner, the owner of our 2003 organ donor. Every aspect of the design reflects the function and aesthetic of the classic Land Rover Defender.
Captivating the design DNA of the Land Rover has been many years under development and the first, early sketch of what would later become the Rockfighter saw the light of day in the Autumn of 2018.
Capturing the iconic design trademarks of the Land Rover while designing a timepiece that can completely stand on its own was no easy task. The imposing and majestic form factor of the Land Rover has been boiled down to a 40mm timepiece that pays homage to the British icon.
"With the RNR collection it was all about straight, square lines softened by the round elements found on the Land Rover - the shape of the wheel being one. We wanted to create a timepiece that spoke directly to the hearts of watch and Land Rover fans all over the world."
Designer of REC Watches, Thomas Funder
