Description

The P51 Green Hornet is a limited-edition timepiece made from Carroll Shelby’s 1968 Ford Mustang EXP500 prototype, aka ‘Green Hornet’.

Described by Carroll Shelby himself as “the one and only Green Hornet”, the vehicle provides a historical snapshot of what was happening at Ford and Shelby American during the heyday of the American muscle car, and is now considered one of the rarest and most remarkable Mustangs of all time.

At a time when most prototypes were destined to end their lives at the business end of a crusher, the Green Hornet was saved by the intervention of fate and ended up back on the road, with surplus parts from its immaculate restoration finding their way onto the dial of the P51 Green Hornet timepieces.

The P51 Green Hornet sports an eye-catching green-and-gray color scheme and sits beautifully on the wrist thanks to a double calf leather strap paired with a 42 mm cushion case.

“I’ve always been asked, ‘What’s your favorite car?’ and I’ve always said, ‘The next one.’” – Carroll Shelby

Recovered

Presumed crushed

The Green Hornet was one of two experimental Ford Mustang coupes produced by Carroll Shelby and Shelby American.

Originally painted Lime Gold, it was built as a testbed for a potential nationwide version of Ford’s California Special. When Ford abandoned the California Special – or “Super Coupe” – project, the car was given to Shelby Automotive.

In Shelby’s hands, the Green Hornet became the first car to combine multiple experimental techniques in a single vehicle: independent rear suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and, perhaps most importantly, a Conelec four-barrel computerized fuel injection system which was nothing short of revolutionary back in 1968.

The experimental exhaust and intake manifolds used on the Green Hornet would even go on to become key parts of Ford’s legendary Cobra Jet engine.

The Green Hornet, which gets its name from the unique Candy Apple Green color scheme, was believed to have been consigned to the crusher at the end of its prototype life cycle – standard procedure at the time.

All the original memos state that the car had been “disposed of” but, while many interpreted this to mean it had been crushed, it turned out the car had actually been sold, and therefore survived.

Recycled

Harnessing the spirit of experimentalism

Restored to its original experimental glory under the direction of the car’s owner, Barrett-Jackson CEO Craig Jackson, including a massive undertaking to reintegrate all the experimental parts, the Green Hornet provides a historical snapshot of what was happening at Ford and Shelby American during the heyday of the American muscle car.

Described by Carroll Shelby himself as “the one and only Green Hornet”, it is now considered one of the rarest and most remarkable Mustangs of all time.

The Green Hornet symbolizes one of the greatest chapters of innovation and risk-taking in the American automotive story. The Shelby team created an artifact of Mustang history that stands as a testament to the now-legendary era of the late 1960s at Shelby American.

Orchestrated by Craig Jackson and Jason Billups, the restoration project aimed to return the car to its prototype specs and included the manufacture of experimental components, from which surplus sheet metal was provided for use in the P-1 Green Hornet watch.

Reclaimed

A tribute to a true original

Creating a watch that honored both the design and history of one of the most iconic Mustangs ever built was a truly incredible challenge.

Our goal was to produce a riveting next-generation version of our P51 Collection featuring multiple design references that real Mustang enthusiasts would instantly recognize.

From start to finish, we worked to include a wealth of references to the Shelby Green Hornet.

Featuring a dial made of sheet metal recycled from the vehicle, the watch incorporates many of the Green Hornet’s most eye-catching details in the case, strap and dial. Among these are the crown designed to resemble the hubcaps, the strap stitching pattern taken directly from the seats, and the taillight motifs subtly laser-engraved into the side of the case.

You can purchase this item in payment installments with Splitit - with no extra hidden costs. The installments will be spread over your chosen number of months and debited to your credit card.
Splitit installment payments at 0% interest: How does it work exactly?

Splitit allows you to split the total payment over a maximum of twelve months using your credit card. This service is free, involves no credit checks or applications, and means you can choose to split your payment into monthly installments.

To use this payment method all you need a credit card with a sufficient amount of available credit. Splitit authorizes the total order value—but don’t worry, this is not taken in full when you complete the purchase. At the time of shipping, only the first installment will be charged to your credit card. The remaining balance will be held on your credit card until the final payment has been made. However, a payment authorization for the outstanding amount of your purchase will be held during the full payment period.

After each monthly payment, the amount held from your available balance will be reduced to the new remaining balance (the held amount might appear as “pending”). To ensure that the authorization of your credit card is valid for the entire payment period, the authorization will be renewed every 21 days.

Are there any extra fees involved?

No, this is an interest-free payment method with no additional fixed fees, service fees, interest, or hidden fees of any kind.

Which credit cards does Splitit support?

You can pay using Splitit with a Mastercard or Visa card. Debit cards, American Express and pre-paid cards are not accepted.

Do I have to maintain the required available credit amount on my credit card?

Yes, you must maintain a sufficient amount on your credit card for both the monthly payment and for the full outstanding amount of your purchase during the full period of the plan. The authorized amount will be charged only in the event that a monthly payment is declined (the authorization hold might appear as “pending” on your credit card bill).

What happens if I return the product?

If you decide to not keep the ordered item(s), upon return of the items we will reimburse the installments that have already been paid and cancel the outstanding payments.

When and where can I choose the number of installments for my payment plan?

Installment payments with Splitit can be chosen as a payment option during the checkout process. Here, you can choose the number of installments in your payment plan and view the monthly payment amounts.
