Description

The P51-02 is a limited-edition timepiece made from salvaged 1st & 2nd generation Ford Mustangs.

From materials to design, the P51 is a faithful tribute to one of the most significant American muscle cars ever made, the Ford Mustang. Featuring a handcrafted dial made from recycled Mustang parts, bearing its own marks and imperfections, each and every P51 timepiece is visually unique from the next.

A reference to the VIN and production year of the recycled vehicle are incorporated on the dial at 10 o’clock, while the accompanying storycard includes an in-depth history of the specific car from which your watch is made. The “P51” Collection name is a reference to the inception of the Ford Mustang, as it is now commonly accepted that the vehicles designer, John Najjar, named the vehicle after the WW2 Mustang planes.

On the wrist, the P51 combines bold looks with superior comfort thanks to the short lugs and flexible double calf leather strap. In 2016, the P51 Collection made the Wall Street Journal’s Top 5 list of watches under $5’000.

Recovered

The genesis of American muscle cars

In 1964, Ford launched a model that would kickstart a new era of American sports cars: the Mustang. Despite acquiring a reputation as the original “muscle car”, the Mustang didn’t actually start out as one.

Lee Iacocca, Vice President of Ford at the time, wanted to offer mainstream American consumers a car that weighed less than 2500 lbs for under $2500.

The very same day the Mustang was launched, Ford dealerships sold a record 22.000 vehicles, rising to over 400.000 in the first year of production and sealing the Mustang’s reputation as an instant and indisputable success.

In 1967, the Mustang underwent a major facelift. The result was the new ’67 Fastback, regarded by many as one of the best-looking American sports cars ever made.

Following a tumultuous period that saw numerous radical changes to the design during the 70s, 80s and 90s, Ford eventually returned to the roots of the original vehicle in 2005.

The fifth generation Mustang, designed by Sid Ramnarace, was a clear tribute to the original 60s model, and with more than 10 million Mustangs produced since its 1964 launch, it is now the best-selling sports car of all time.

Recycled

Exposing metal – raw and real

Because of the huge number of Mustangs produced through the years, many of them are now beyond repair. Our mission with the P51 Collection is to hunt down these vehicles and recycle their components, giving them a second life as the dial of a timepiece.

We aim to recycle the exterior parts and incorporate them in the dial with as little alteration as possible, to preserve the unique patina and raw esthetic that characterizes the P51 Collection.

Once we’ve got hold of the parts, the next stage is to stamp them out into P51 dials. The number of dials we can get from each car varies greatly depending on the amount and condition of available parts, which means the patina on each dial is visibly unique.

After removing any residual paint or primer to expose the bare metal, we carefully apply a thin layer of transparent lacquer to produce a completely flat surface and create a vacuum, which puts a stop to any creeping oxidation.

Finally, and usually with only the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to go on, we start tracking down as much history and information on the previous owners as we can.

Reclaimed

Every detail says Mustang

The P51 doesn’t just feature a piece of a Mustang, it also captures the very essence of generations of Mustang vehicles. While the recycled dial is the undisputed star of the show, there are plenty of other references to the car’s design – both subtle and not-so-subtle – built into every aspect of the P51.

The bold cushion case echoes the Mustang’s rear silhouette, complete with sequential tail lights laser-engraved on the side. The custom rotor on top of the sturdy Miyota cal. 9130 is decorated to resemble the hubcaps from the original 1964 model, while the easy-to-use crown is directly inspired by the gas cap on the Mustang GT350.

On the dial side, the 40-hour (minimum) power reserve masquerades as a fuel gauge, albeit with the F and E switched over. The date at 6 o’clock mimics the vehicle’s odometer, and the time-telling center dial and hands take their vintage form from the speedometer on the original 1960s Mustang.

Splitit installment payments at 0% interest: How does it work exactly?

Splitit allows you to split the total payment over a maximum of twelve months using your credit card. This service is free, involves no credit checks or applications, and means you can choose to split your payment into monthly installments.

To use this payment method all you need a credit card with a sufficient amount of available credit. Splitit authorizes the total order value—but don’t worry, this is not taken in full when you complete the purchase. At the time of shipping, only the first installment will be charged to your credit card. The remaining balance will be held on your credit card until the final payment has been made. However, a payment authorization for the outstanding amount of your purchase will be held during the full payment period.

After each monthly payment, the amount held from your available balance will be reduced to the new remaining balance (the held amount might appear as “pending”). To ensure that the authorization of your credit card is valid for the entire payment period, the authorization will be renewed every 21 days.

Are there any extra fees involved?

No, this is an interest-free payment method with no additional fixed fees, service fees, interest, or hidden fees of any kind.

Which credit cards does Splitit support?

Do I have to maintain the required available credit amount on my credit card?

Yes, you must maintain a sufficient amount on your credit card for both the monthly payment and for the full outstanding amount of your purchase during the full period of the plan. The authorized amount will be charged only in the event that a monthly payment is declined (the authorization hold might appear as “pending” on your credit card bill).

What happens if I return the product?

If you decide to not keep the ordered item(s), upon return of the items we will reimburse the installments that have already been paid and cancel the outstanding payments.
