Aviation Legend

SR-71 Blackbird

The SR-71 Blackbird occupies an iconic place in aviation history, serving as the U.S. Air Force’s most advanced reconnaissance aircraft from 1966 to 1999.

Designed by Lockheed’s Skunk Works under the direction of the legendary engineer Clarence “Kelly” Johnson, the SR-71 was crafted with one mission in mind: to outfly and outmaneuver enemy threats.

A Classroom in the Sky

Aircraft No. 61-7956

First taking to the skies in 1965, SR-71 No. 61-7956 was a “B” variant, playing a crucial role in the Blackbird program. Though it never flew operational reconnaissance missions, it served as an invaluable training aircraft.

Serving as a “classroom in the sky,” this aircraft trained pilots to navigate the extreme conditions and advanced systems of the SR-71.
