The Bullitt 558 is a DNA Limited Edition timepiece featuring authentic components from the iconic Highland Green Bullitt Mustang (VIN 8R02S125558). The stunt car from the film Bullitt that tore through San Francisco with Steve McQueen behind the wheel.
This vehicle became a cultural touchstone thanks to the groundbreaking San Francisco car chase sequence, cementing both the Mustang and McQueen’s “King of Cool” status in automotive and film history. VIN 558 is today recognized as one of the most significant movie cars ever.

A Decade of Expertise
The Highland Green Mustang from the Bullitt movie is arguably the most iconic and recognizable Mustang of all time.
At REC, we exist at the intersection of two worlds: the love and nerdiness for iconic vehicles, and the passion for watches.
Naturally, we already knew the Bullitt Mustang well, but more than that, we’d admired it for years. It’s been on our minds for a long time.
The Car Chase That Set the Standard

When Bullitt hit cinemas in 1968, car chases would never be the same again.
Until then, action driving was usually a backdrop, a supporting act. But when Steve McQueen’s Highland Green ’68 Mustang Fastback launched through the streets of San Francisco, it rewrote the rulebook.
The 10-minute chase sequence became the heartbeat of the film: pure, mechanical rhythm, edited to perfection, shot at real speed, and orchestrated with the precision of a symphony.

Two Bullitt Mustangs
To survive McQueen’s brutal demands for realism, Warner Bros. ordered two identical Highland Green Mustangs, VIN 8R02S125558 and VIN 8R02S125559.
On the outside, they were identical. But on the inside, their roles were vastly different. While VIN 559 was kept mainly stock and did all the close-ups and normal driving, VIN 558 was transformed into the stunt beast, built to fly through San Francisco.
Sourcing the DNA Material
Preserved, Not Destroyed
The Bullitt Mustang VIN 8R02S125558 is alive and well. Creating this timepiece has not damaged, altered, or compromised the car in any way. So how can a watch be crafted with its original parts?
When Bullitt 558 re-emerged in 2017, it entered a meticulous restoration. During that process, a small, finite section of original material was found to be beyond repair.
This authentic piece of Bullitt DNA, which survived and lived through the brutal jumps and punishment of the San Francisco chase, was deemed too precious to discard.

A tribute to the most iconic chase ever put on film, a defining era of cinema, and the authenticity of Steve McQueen as Frank Bullitt, it captures the spirit of the most celebrated Mustang of them all.
Creating a watch worthy of that legacy is a years long, meticulous pursuit. Every component, down to the movement, has been designed with purpose, ensuring the style, proportions, and function align perfectly with the story it tells.
Splitit installment payments at 0% interest: How does it work exactly?
Splitit allows you to split the total payment over a maximum of twelve months using your credit card. This service is free, involves no credit checks or applications, and means you can choose to split your payment into monthly installments.
To use this payment method all you need a credit card with a sufficient amount of available credit. Splitit authorizes the total order value—but don’t worry, this is not taken in full when you complete the purchase. At the time of shipping, only the first installment will be charged to your credit card. A payment authorization for the outstanding amount of your purchase will be held during for up to 30 days after placing your order.
After each monthly payment, the amount held from your available balance will be reduced to the new remaining balance (the held amount might appear as “pending”). To ensure that the authorization of your credit card is valid for the entire payment period, the authorization will be renewed every 21 days.

No, this is an interest-free payment method with no additional fixed fees, service fees, interest, or hidden fees of any kind.
Which credit cards does Splitit support?
You can pay using Splitit with a Mastercard or Visa cards. Debit cards and pre-paid cards are not accepted.
Do I have to maintain the required available credit amount on my credit card?
You must maintain a sufficient amount on your credit card for both the monthly payment and for the full outstanding amount of your purchase for up to 30 days after placing the order. The average authorization typically drops off within 5-10 working days. The authorized amount will be charged only in the event that a monthly payment is declined (the authorization hold might appear as “pending” on your credit card bill).
What happens if I return the product?
If you decide to not keep the ordered item(s), upon return of the items we will reimburse the installments that have already been paid and cancel the outstanding payments.
