DNA Edition (Coming soon) 953 TÉNÉRÉ
Project 953 TÉNÉRÉ
This DNA Limited Edition timepiece is made from authentic Porsche 953 DNA material, sourced from chassis 100020, the car Jacky Ickx drove in the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally. Ickx was the man who persuaded Porsche to take on the Dakar, and this was one of just three 953s built for it.
Few believed a sports car could survive the desert. The 953, the first four-wheel-drive 911, won on its first attempt, the first sports car ever to win the Dakar. Ickx’s car proved its pace: after a cable fire dropped him far down the field, he and Claude Brasseur fought back with eight stage wins, more than any other crew, to finish sixth.
Designed from scratch with Swiss horological craft, this timepiece turns original Porsche 953 DNA into a mechanical tribute to the Paris-Dakar and one of Porsche’s boldest adventures.

Did we destroy the car?
Did we destroy the car?
Not at all. A part of the Porsche 953’s original undercarriage, too worn to remain on the car, was entrusted to REC as DNA material for this timepiece.
Rather than let this authentic piece of motorsport history go unused, we have given it a new purpose. It now stands as a tribute to the craftsmanship and engineering of a remarkable era in rally racing.
How is the DNA material authenticated?
How is the DNA material authenticated?
This timepiece is made in collaboration with the owner of the very car it is made from.

As a rally veteran, a 953 expert and the owner of Porsche 953 chassis 100020, Wolf-Dieter Ihle ensures absolute authenticity.
Behind the scenes
Meeting the legend
A story like this deserves more than archive photos. So REC co-founder Jonathan Kamstrup and watch designer Thomas Funder travelled to Stuttgart to meet the owner of the Porsche 953 and see the car in person.
They spent the day up close with the car that crossed the desert, studying the lines, the livery and the details that made it a Dakar winner. Decades later, it still carries the story of 1984.
