The P/1001

The P/1001 Series is a limited-edition Swiss-made timepiece featuring tachymeter scales crafted from repurposed aluminum coolant pipes sourced from the iconic Ford GT40 chassis P/1001, the first-ever production GT40 car.

This vehicle marked the transition from prototype to production and played a key role in the development of the GT40 program. Offered in three colorways, each model honors the GT40 P/1001’s heritage with designs inspired by its historic liveries: Essex Wire (white/red), Sidney Taylor Racing (green/gold), and FAV Shelby (blue/white).

The 40mm vintage-inspired watch houses the Swiss RC-P1001M manual-winding flyback chronograph, with a 63-hour power reserve and decorated bridges visible through its exhibition caseback.

The GT40 Legacy

 

Few cars evoke the emotional intensity of the Ford GT40. Born from the fierce rivalry between Henry Ford II and Enzo Ferrari, it became a motorsport legend, winning four consecutive 24 Hours of Le Mans titles from 1966 to 1969.

These victories marked a seismic shift in racing history, establishing the GT40 as a symbol of American innovation and determination.

  • 24H of Le Mans 1966: A historic moment captured. Three Ford GT40 Mk Il’s are orchestrated by Ford to cross the finish line in unison, with Bruce McLaren slightly ahead.
  • Drivers sprinting to their cars at the start of the 1966 Le Mans race. The iconic “Le Mans Start” initially required drivers to start outside their vehicles, run to their cars, start the engines, and race off. This procedure proved hazardous, leading to a change in 1970, when drivers began the race inside their cars with their safety harnesses already secured.
  • Ford entrusted the GT40 to Carroll Shelby’s race team (left) with the aim of conquering Le Mans. In the pits at Le Mans, Shelby’s chief engineer and driver, Ken Miles, stands to the right, while ace driver Bruce McLaren sits in the cockpit.
  • “You better win – HF”. After Ford Motor Company’s unsuccessful attempt to acquire Ferrari in 1963, Henry Ford II set his sights on defeating Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Following two frustrating years where Ford’s cars failed to complete the race, he distributed these “motivational” cards to his senior managers in 1966.
  • The contract drafted in 1963 for the proposed merger between Ford and Ferrari. Enzo Ferrari’s signature, however, never appeared on the dotted line.

The First of its Kind

Chassis P/1001

 

From 1964 to 1969, only 105 GT40s were produced, with chassis P/1001 holding special historical significance as the first-ever production GT40, completed in March 1965.

Marking the transition from prototype to production, P/1001 played a key role in the GT40 program’s development. It was showcased at the 1965 New York Auto Show and World’s Fair before being sent to Ford Advanced Vehicles in the UK for race preparation.

The P/1001 Series timepieces celebrate racing heritage, featuring tachymeter scales crafted from repurposed aluminum coolant pipes of the iconic Ford GT40 chassis P/1001, establishing a direct link to one of motorsport’s most legendary tales.

Offered in three distinct colorways, each edition reflects the GT40’s historic liveries: the Essex Wire edition commemorates the car’s 1966 Le Mans debut with a striking white, red, and black design; the Sidney Taylor edition honors its time with Sidney Taylor Racing in green, white, and gold; and the FAV Shelby edition captures the original Shelby blue and Wimbledon white livery.

This exceptional manual movement has been meticulously developed specifically for this timepiece, featuring a fully decorated, integrated column-wheel operated flyback chronograph with an impressive 63-hour power reserve, visible through the exhibition caseback.
