Daniel Espirito Santo, a Portuguese contemporary photographer and filmmaker, has chosen the laid-back approach to life most of us can only dream of. For him, nothing symbolizes freedom in his life better than his not-so-trusty ’81 Series III – nicknamed ‘Beachrunner’ – which he refers to as his ultimate partner of adventure.
Years ago, Daniel made the decision to live his life strictly in the present, and now spends most of his days on the beaches of Peniche, in his constant quest for that, one, perfect wave – documenting his adventures along the way.
When the roof of the vehicle was to be restored, we jumped at the opportunity to create a watch which embodies more than just the history and utility of a vehicle – it was a chance to capture the unique bond that can exist between man and machine.
The RNR name is an abbreviation of ‘Road Not Required’, a reference to the off-road capabilities of these vehicles.

A symbol of life lived in the moment
Thanks to the endless sea breezes and the saltwater dripping from his surfboards, the roof of Daniel’s beloved 1981 series III Land Rover, the “Beachrunner”, had been slowly eaten away.
The vehicle was not only Daniel’s trusty companion on his daily adventures; it had also become a motorized emblem of his life-changing decision to escape the corporate rat race.
Once the metal blanket that protected Daniel on his off-road adventures and beneath starry night skies, the vehicle underwent significant restoration in 2018.
Keenly aware of its role as a symbol of the easy-going approach to life, rather than simply a means of transport, we decided to incorporate parts of Daniel’s replaced roof in the dials of the RNR Beachrunner timepiece.
From roof to wrist
We used the sheet metal from the roof to stamp out 552 dials, each with its own unique patina to make sure no two RNR Beachrunners look the same.
After scraping away the residual paint and primer to expose the bare metal, we carefully applied a thin layer of transparent lacquer to obtain a completely fl at surface and form a vacuum, which halts any oxidation in its tracks.
A perfect marriage of form and function
Every aspect of the RNR Beachrunner design reflects the function and aesthetic of the classic Land Rover Series III.
It was a major challenge to successfully capture the vehicle’s design DNA, with the whole development process taking a year.
The 40 mm square case with soft, rounded corners is built to withstand pretty much anything you could throw at it, and many of its design features are taken directly from the Land Rover itself.
The protective rubber bezel echoes the spare tire mounted on the hood, while the screw-in case-back features the 5-bolt pattern found on the hubcaps. Even the profile of the crown guard has been painstakingly designed to mirror the Land Rover’s distinctive front grille.
The RNR Beachrunner’s dial is inspired by the vehicle’s color scheme, and its hands and indices are coated with powerful C3 Super-LumiNova for the midnight adventurers out there.
Splitit installment payments at 0 % interest: How does it work exactly?
Splitit allows you to split the total payment over a maximum of twelve months using your credit card. This service is free, involves no credit checks or applications, and means you can choose to split your payment into monthly installments.
To use this payment method all you need a credit card with a sufficient amount of available credit. Splitit authorizes the total order value—but don’t worry, this is not taken in full when you complete the purchase. At the time of shipping, only the first installment will be charged to your credit card. The remaining balance will be held on your credit card until the final payment has been made. However, a payment authorization for the outstanding amount of your purchase will be held during the full payment period.
After each monthly payment, the amount held from your available balance will be reduced to the new remaining balance (the held amount might appear as “pending”). To ensure that the authorization of your credit card is valid for the entire payment period, the authorization will be renewed every 21 days.
Are there any extra fees involved?
No, this is an interest-free payment method with no additional fixed fees, service fees, interest, or hidden fees of any kind.
Which credit cards does Splitit support?
You can pay using Splitit with a Mastercard or Visa card. Debit cards, American Express and pre-paid cards are not accepted.
Do I have to maintain the required available credit amount on my credit card?
Yes, you must maintain a sufficient amount on your credit card for both the monthly payment and for the full outstanding amount of your purchase during the full period of the plan. The authorized amount will be charged only in the event that a monthly payment is declined (the authorization hold might appear as “pending” on your credit card bill).
What happens if I return the product?
If you decide to not keep the ordered item(s), upon return of the items we will reimburse the installments that have already been paid and cancel the outstanding payments.
When and where can I choose the number of installments for my payment plan?
Installment payments with Splitit can be chosen as a payment option during the checkout process. Here, you can choose the number of installments in your payment plan and view the monthly payment amounts.
