The RNR Beachrunner

The RNR Beachrunner is a limited edition timepiece crafted from the 1981 Land Rover Series III, known as the “Beachrunner.”

Daniel Espirito Santo, a modern photographer and filmmaker from Portugal, lives a lifestyle that many dream of. Embracing a present-focused existence, he spends his days surfing the beaches of Peniche and capturing his adventures.

His 1981 Series III, affectionately named the “Beachrunner,” embodies the spirit of freedom and exploration. When it came time to restore the vehicle’s roof, we saw an opportunity to create a watch that reflects not only its history and functionality but also the deep connection between man and machine.

The RNR designation, meaning “Road Not Required,” highlights the off-road capabilities that define these vehicles.

A Way of Life

Sea-breeze & Saltwater

With sea breezes and saltwater taking their toll, Daniel’s beloved 1981 Series III Land Rover, affectionately known as the “Beachrunner,” experienced gradual deterioration of its roof.

The vehicle was more than a means of transport; it represented Daniel’s shift from corporate life to a life of adventure and freedom.

From Roof to Wrist

Patina included

We transformed the roof’s sheet metal into 552 unique dials for the RNR Beachrunner, each showcasing its distinct patina and character.

After carefully stripping away the remaining paint and primer to expose the raw metal, we applied a fine layer of transparent lacquer. This process ensured a smooth, level surface and created a vacuum seal to prevent further oxidation, preserving the dials’ individuality and history.

A Fusion of

Form and function

The RNR Beachrunner masterfully blends the utilitarian functionality and timeless aesthetics of the classic Land Rover Series III.

Capturing the essence of the vehicle’s design was a considerable endeavor, involving a full year of development.
