Pat Hughes & Spitfire X4009
Originally designed by Reginald Joseph Mitchell in the early 1930s, the Supermarine Spitfire became an aviation icon, celebrated for its aerodynamic excellence and key role in shaping WWII history.
As a high-performance interceptor, the “Spit” played a crucial role in combating German fighters during the Battle of Britain—the first major air campaign fought solely by air forces.

A Small Piece of History
In 2020, Ross and Ann-Maree Pay of Vintage Fighter Restorations took ownership of the wreckage and identity of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk1a X4009, unearthed from its crash site in the UK, 80 years after its service in the Battle of Britain.
The couple donated the aircraft remains to the Hunter Fighter Collection Incorporated, an Australian charity, launching an ambitious project to fully restore the X4009 to its 1940 condition.
