Description

The P51 RTR is a limited edition timepiece made in collaboration with Formula Drift Champion, Vaughn Gittin Jr.

Famed for his aggressive driving, Gittin Jr. secured his first Formula DRIFT title in 2010 and was named Ace Driver of the Decade in 2013 for his unmatched record in tandem battles.

The P51 RTR embodies the Mustang RTR’s essence, integrating recycled carbon fiber and aluminum from the vehicle with RTR’s iconic style. Its raw carbon dial, marked by the vehicle’s drifting wear, is complemented by a bezel crafted from recycled crushed carbon and aluminum from the car’s suspension.

A tribute to Gittin Jr. and his iconic vehicle, the P51 RTR captures the spirit of modern drifting in a compact homage.

DRIFT MONSTER

Drifting emerged as a motorsport in Japan during the 1970s, gradually gaining international traction through the 1990s.

When Vaughn Gittin Jr., a self-taught drifter from Maryland, entered the professional circuit in 2004, Japanese drivers and manufacturers largely dominated the scene.

Gittin’s unconventional approach, piloting a Ford Mustang, defied expectations. Yet, this choice propelled him to victory in championships like the Formula DRIFT Championship in 2010 and 2020, solidifying his status as an iconic figure in the sport, often dubbed the “professional funhaver.”

The P51 RTR derives from Gittin’s championship-winning car, the Monster Energy Nitto Tire Ford Racing Mustang RTR, a machine meticulously customized for top-tier drifting. From its carbon exterior to its 900 bhp output, this vehicle blends traditional Japanese drift culture with six decades of Ford Mustang heritage, earning its title as the ultimate Drift Monster.

GRAVEL SCARS

Enduring the rugged terrain of drifting, the Mustang RTR inevitably undergoes wear and tear, requiring periodic replacement of its exterior components. Gittin Jr. and the RTR team mechanics generously provided us with various carbon and aluminum parts salvaged directly from the Championship car itself, tasking us with maximizing their potential.

Recycling carbon fiber into watch dials posed a formidable challenge due to its rigidity and composition, limiting our ability to manipulate the material as usual. Despite receiving numerous carbon parts, only a fraction proved suitable for dial production. However, the imperfections—such as minor marks and dents from gravel encounters during drifting—became defining features of these raw carbon dials.

To make the most of the surplus carbon fiber parts, we opted to crush them and merge them with the supplied aluminum components, forging them anew into the distinctive bezels that adorn the P51 RTR.

Not For Everyone

The P51 RTR stands as a pinnacle among our audacious timepieces, pushing the boundaries of innovation and homage.

In collaboration with Vaughn Gittin Jr. and his esteemed RTR team, our mission was clear: to craft the definitive tribute to a drifting champion and his formidable 900 bhp companion.

Adorned with striking green and dark orange printed hands, the raw carbon dial finds its enclosure within a bezel meticulously crafted from salvaged carbon and aluminum sourced directly from the car’s suspension.

A subtle interplay of tones defines the timepiece’s aesthetic: the understated gunmetal gray/PVD-coated case and carbon black dial provide a stark contrast to the vibrant green and orange hues adorning the dial and strap stitching.

Every detail of the watch pays homage to Gittin Jr.’s iconic Mustang RTR. From the left side of the case mirroring the front grille of his Mustang RTR, complete with laser-engraved triangular LED accent vent lights first unveiled at the 2015 SEMA show, to the rotor adorned in tribute to the iconic Tech 7 mesh spoke 3-piece race wheel.

The inclusion of the Roman numeral “25” on each side of the strap serves as a subtle nod to the RTR race car’s own identifier, completing the narrative of this exceptional timepiece.
