Description

The RNR Rockfighter is a limited edition timepiece made from the 2003 Land Rover Defender, ‘Rockfighter’.

Built and owned by Michael Ortner, this unique Defender has conquered every kind of terrain, from the steep mountain roads of Corsica to the baking deserts of Morocco. The Rockfighter’s name was not given – it was earned. Still, the vehicle’s many adventures have led to some serious wear and tear over time.

In 2019, when the car needed a replacement left door, we were given the original material to recycle and incorporate into the dial of our RNR-Rockfighter timepiece, paying tribute to the raw functionality and durability of its donor vehicle.

The RNR name is an abbreviation of ‘Road Not Required’, a reference to the off-road capabilities of these vehicles.

Recovered

Tough as nails

The Rockfighter is a 2003 Land Rover Defender that Michael Ortner himself customized to face the challenges of extreme off-road adventures.

Over the last seventeen years, Michael has traveled the world in the Rockfighter, leading a convoy of off-road vehicles across some of the toughest terrain nature has to offer as part of his 4X4 Experience tours.

Designed to test the limits of what an off-roader can do, this Land Rover has become a tool that Michael uses in both his work and adventures, and captures the rugged spirit and extreme versatility that define the Defender.

When Michael needed to replace the left door, we jumped at the chance to repurpose the material for the dial in a robust “daily beater” model.

Recycled

Robustness repurposed

We managed to punch out 453 dials from the Rockfighter’s door, which we coated with a clear lacquer and built directly into the RNR-Rockfighter design, breathing new life into a vehicle that has seen more of the world in seventeen years than most Defenders will in a lifetime.

Each dial bears the scars of the tough life this Defender has endured.

Reclaimed

Hard lines, soft edges

Every aspect of the RNR-Rockfighter’s design reflects the functionality and aesthetic of the 2003 “Rockfighter” Land Rover Defender, and it took a full year of development for us to successfully capture the vehicle’s design DNA.

The 40 mm square case with soft, rounded corners is built to withstand almost anything life might throw at it, and many of its design features have been carefully crafted to echo the exterior of the vehicle itself.

The protective rubber bezel is inspired by the spare tire mounted on the Rockfighter’s hood, and the 5-bolt pattern found on the vehicle’s hubcaps features on the screw-in case-back.

Viewed in profile, the crown guard is shaped to resemble the Defender’s distinctive front grille, while the dial takes on the vehicle’s color scheme. And for all the midnight adventurers out there, the compass-inspired hands and indices are coated with powerful C3 Super-LumiNova.

You can purchase this item in payment installments with Splitit - with no extra hidden costs. The installments will be spread over your chosen number of months and debited to your credit card.
Splitit installment payments at 0% interest: How does it work exactly?

Splitit allows you to split the total payment over a maximum of twelve months using your credit card. This service is free, involves no credit checks or applications, and means you can choose to split your payment into monthly installments.

To use this payment method all you need a credit card with a sufficient amount of available credit. Splitit authorizes the total order value—but don’t worry, this is not taken in full when you complete the purchase. At the time of shipping, only the first installment will be charged to your credit card. The remaining balance will be held on your credit card until the final payment has been made. However, a payment authorization for the outstanding amount of your purchase will be held during the full payment period.

After each monthly payment, the amount held from your available balance will be reduced to the new remaining balance (the held amount might appear as “pending”). To ensure that the authorization of your credit card is valid for the entire payment period, the authorization will be renewed every 21 days.

Are there any extra fees involved?

No, this is an interest-free payment method with no additional fixed fees, service fees, interest, or hidden fees of any kind.

Which credit cards does Splitit support?

You can pay using Splitit with a Mastercard or Visa card. Debit cards, American Express and pre-paid cards are not accepted.

Do I have to maintain the required available credit amount on my credit card?

Yes, you must maintain a sufficient amount on your credit card for both the monthly payment and for the full outstanding amount of your purchase during the full period of the plan. The authorized amount will be charged only in the event that a monthly payment is declined (the authorization hold might appear as “pending” on your credit card bill).

What happens if I return the product?

If you decide to not keep the ordered item(s), upon return of the items we will reimburse the installments that have already been paid and cancel the outstanding payments.

When and where can I choose the number of installments for my payment plan?

Installment payments with Splitit can be chosen as a payment option during the checkout process. Here, you can choose the number of installments in your payment plan and view the monthly payment amounts.
